A shot of viagra for MCA will not do any good, as the Chinese party cannot be expected to fight for the people if it cannot even stand up to Umno.

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said MCA’s impotence in BN is clear from the subservience to Umno shown in a total lack of response to BN chief Najib Abdul Razak’s insult at their own grounds yesterday.

“MCA suffered the ultimate political humiliation, not from the general election losses and rejection by the rakyat, but from their long-time friend in Umno when Najib told the MCA general assembly yesterday (that MCA needs ‘political viagra’).

“If MCA dare not object when they are humiliated in their own building and openly in front of their members, how then can the rakyat expect MCA to fight Umno to defend Malaysian rights?

“And the rakyat are seeking answers on how to be set free from the prison of poverty, corruption and debt as result of the mismanagement of BN,” said Lim in a statement today.

The DAP secretary-general said while the country’s debt as well as personal household debt were mounting, the BN has offered no solutions or comfort to the people.

“Even though absolute poverty has been reduced, relative poverty has worsened with the price hikes in sugar, petrol, electricity and highway toll charges.

“Can political Viagra solve these daily livelihood problems faced by the rakyat?

“Or will we fall back on Umno’s divide and rule policy of playing the fires of racial hatred and religious extremism by pitting Malays against non-Malays, Muslims against non-Muslims and even Muslims against Muslims?” he asked.

'Who needs friends like Umno?'

Najib joked during his address at the MCA general assembly that the latter’s problems could be solved with a dose of “political viagra”, eliciting only laughter from the delegates and a meek response from certain party leaders.

Lim reminded MCA that the people reject certain political parties because they “lose sight of these principles and are tainted by the corrupting influence of money and power”.

“The Umno president’s advice to MCA that the Health Ministry issue political viagra to revive itself only reminds Malaysians that with friends like Umno, who needs enemies?” he quipped.
