I don't know whether to laugh or to be angry when I read Tajjuddin's version as to why the police took action against the Indian nationals at Brickfields recently.

He says the police were doing their job of protecting Malaysia's interests and upholding the law when they raided and detained the foreigners. He went o­n to say that our prime minister, Dr Mahathir Mohamad, is trying so hard to "form a body of opinion" to help Muslims, especially Pakistan. He also implied that since India supports US, then we acted as we did!

First and foremost, let me acknowledge Tajjuddin's right to his opinion, although I find that opinion disgusting, narrow-minded, and totally not representing how Muslims view the situation, even if he conveniently says that the police did it because of actions against Muslims and to help Pakistan. (I wonder what Tajjuddin would have to say if somehow Pakistan votes for the US resolution!)

It is views like Tajjuddin's that destroy goodwill, sour relationships and cause long-term damage to the image of Malaysia. I really wonder whether his intentions were actually noble or a subtle
attempt to put Malaysia in as bad a light as possible.

Anyway, to all our Indian friends and visitors, let me, a Malaysian Malay Muslim, say that Tajjuddin does not represent the vast majority of the population, and certainly, I'm sure, not the police or the government!
