The News Straits Times reported (in relation to the Palm Court enforcement raid) that an Indian Foreign Ministry spokesman said: "Things cannot quickly go back to business as usual unless we have a proper explanation and until we are satisfied that the root cause of this incident has been gone into."

The root cause in Malaysia is a lack of respect for individuals regardless of race and social standing. I have seen this while standing behind a Bangladeshi at the immigration counter.

This time around, the police have picked o­n the wrong crowd. They may look like Indian/Bangladeshi factory workers but they are expatriates at our much publicised Multimedia Super Corridor. Would the police have handled them the same way if they were Caucasians from UK or USA? I seriously doubt it.

Little wonder now why Indonesian foreign workers revolted at the detention camps in Malaysia last year. o­ne need o­nly listen to the abuse and unfair treatment that these visitors experience in our supposedly hospitable country. There ought to be proper procedures for the police when arresting or questioning suspects.

Unfortunately an excuse will again be made for the "few bad apples". There will be a denial that our police force is in fact undisciplined and corrupt. So is this the way things go in our Bolehland
