Umno man won't apologise over '1Melayu' proposal

He also clarified that he only meant this in the context of the Umno general assembly, and not to replace the 1Malaysia slogan entirely.
"Where was Gerakan when (DAP's Jelutong MP) Jeff Ooi called civil servant a 'kucing kurap' (insignificant), or when the Registrar of Societies was labelled an 'Umno (running) dog'?
"Gerakan should not try to be a hero... I will not apologise, I did no wrong. This is an assembly of Malays so why should I say sorry?
"Other races can talk about their races at their assemblies but Malays can't. I won't apologise, they can do whatever they want (against me)," he said.
The Bukit Mertajam division chief said that Penang Gerakan chief Oh Tong Keong (below) should not have spoken before checking the facts.
"He was not in the hall to listen to my speech but he makes such statements. It's not fair. Tell him to listen to it first," he said, agitated.
Oh, in a strongly-worded statement yesterday, demanded that "racist" Musa retract his statement and apologise.
Musa had mooted Salam 1Melayu replace 1Malaysia while debating the president's policy speech at the Umno general assembly on Thursday.
In his fiery speech, he lambasted the use of Salam 1Malaysia at the Ummo event as it was an assembly of Malays.
The proceedings that day begun with the Negaraku, the Umno song, BN song followed by the 1Malaysia song.
Other debaters had also urged a review of the 1Malaysia strategy as it did not seem to have borne fruit in the 13th general election.
However, Umno top leaders had stressed that the brainchild of Umno president Najib Abdul Razak, who is also prime minister, will still be used in the 14th polls as the BN still need support from non-Malays.
