A DAP member was today called for questioning by the Registrar of Societies (ROS) over his complaint about alleged irregularities during the MCA divisional elections a few months ago.

Taman Segambut DAP branch chairperson Yew Jia Haur said he was questioned for an hour. Yew said he also took the opportunity to urge the ROS to conduct a fair investigation.

"I hope there will be no double standards," he said, adding that the ROS should apply the same level of vigilance shown when it ordered DAP to hold fresh central executive committee elections earlier this year.

On Sept 18, Yew submitted a complaint with the ROS based on  news reports by The Malay Mail on Sept 17, about irregularities involving "phantom branches" in the MCA.

'Thousands of phantom voters'

Among others, the articles titled "Phantoms spook MCA again", "MCA's phantom menace" and "Party riddled with claims of dubious members since 90s" highlighted allegations of there being "thousands of phantom voters" in the MCA.

Yew said that in plenty of people had been interviewed for the articles in the newspaper, unlike the allegation made by one so-called Father Augustus Chen that was used to compel DAP to hold a fresh CEC election.

DAP has denied that it has a 'Father Augustus Chen' among its members.

"That person does not exist. The ROS never got to interview him, but yet the ROS forced DAP to re-elect its CEC.

"So, I hope the ROS will also be fair in MCA's case and investigate if there had been irregularities during the MCA divisional polls," Yew added.
