As much as all eyes are on the upcoming contest for the top post in the MCA, the battle for the No. 2 post is expected to be an equally tough one.

Incumbent Youth head Wee Ka Siong, who will square off with vice-president Donald Lim for the deputy presidency, has conceded as much.

NONE "Lim (right) is a very senior leader. He has been a vice-president for years, he has vast connections in the party, and this is his strength," Wee said in an interview.

Lim is also a familiar face with the public as he had held posts in the government since the 1990s, including that of parliamentary secretary and deputy minister.

"I have to face the election and I have to propagate what I want to do for the party for the next three years, (as well as) my plans and ideology of change ...," Wee said.

"I can never underestimate my opponent. At this juncture, no one can predict the outcome. I will face it calmly, as usual.”

Wee, 45, has teamed up with incumbent deputy president Liow Tiong Lai, who is making a bid to win the presidency in the party polls on Dec 21.
