Umno supreme council designate-member and religious scholar Mohammad Kazim Elias has been sacked from PAS, says the Islamist party's vice-president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

In a text-message to Sinar Harian, Tuan Ibrahim said Kazim was expelled from the party last May.

Kazim (left) yesterday claimed that he was still a PAS member, despite reports suggesting that he had been sacked from the party.

"I never received any dismissal letter, nor was I called by the disciplinary committee to be sacked," Kazim is quoted as in a video recording made by Agenda Daily over the weekend.

"But prime minister Najib Abdul Razak is still willing to consider this (my appointment) and I am pleased with the invitation," the popular religious speaker said.

However, Kazim said, he was undecided about accepting the appointment and would meet Najib to outline a few conditions before taking up the position.

Umno last Friday named Kazim as one of the party supreme council members, leaving out Kedah menteri besar Mukhriz Mahathir, who lost in the vice-presidency contest.
