The debate o­n the dengue outbreak has been going o­n for months, but we are yet to see any official safety measures from our government that has nevertheless been really good at spending RM110 million to organise an irrelevant NAM summit.

I live in a high-rise apartment, purportedly mosquito-free. Yet every day my family has to put up with closed doors and windows from 6pm to 9pm and live in an airtight enclosure to ward off the armies of flying monsters.

I wonder how long will we have to put up with such living conditions before we give up and leave this country.

Illegal dumping sites and construction worksites are the breeding grounds. The current monsoon season, which sees storms coming and going, is worsening the conditions. The authorities seem to be oblivious of the health and safety of the people. How can we proud of a country that tries to champion the cause of developing countries when it can't even protect its own citizens and provide them with good living conditions?

Our government wants to be the good leader among the developing countries but never tries to be a good leader to our own people.
