Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) aims to get 70 percent usage of the Malay language in law courses conducted at institutions of higher learning (IPT) in the country.

Its director-general, Awang Sariyan, said this was part of the effort to achieve the objective of enhancing the country's legal system through the use of the national language.

"To enhance the use of the Malay language in the country's legal system, we have to start from below, that is the learning and teaching system," he told reporters after a talk on empowering the country's legal system through the Malay language in Kuala Lumpur today.

However, he said, proper planning was needed to achieve the objective.
