Malacca Umno has made the Umno-PAS discussion as among the important issues which should be given attention at the Umno general assembly on Dec 2-7.

NONE Its chairperson, Idris Haron, said the Umno-PAS discussion was important to pave the way for unity among Muslims and Malays which he said was most crucial for the future of the nation.

The Malacca chief minister also stressed that unity was important to ensure that Islam stood firm in this country and the grandchildren of Malays would never be homeless on their own soil in the future.

"I will find an opportunity (at the gathering) where I can give my opinion and suggestion to enable the discussion to take place to find similarities and reduce differences, without being influenced by politics or other quarters for Islam and the Malays," he told Bernama .

In realising the discussion too, he urged all quarters to push aside all political and personal interests to focus on the interests of Islam and the Malay race.

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang when delivering his adjournment speech at the party's 59th General Assembly in Shah Alam, Selangor on Sunday, said that PAS was prepared to discuss with Umno in the efforts to implement an administration based on Islamic teachings in the country.

Idris told reporters that on the motion on religion, he wanted the debaters to look at the importance of Umno as the mainstay in the development of Islam in the country which was often viewed indifferently by numerous quarters especially the young generations.

He said the motion must be given centre-stage to ensure Islam was always in the heart of the young generations in the country and efforts to uphold Islam in Umno be strengthened.
