Ex-EC chief cements BN stooge claim, says Ambiga

your say, Yoursay Kim Quek: This self-confessed racist/Umno agent masquerading as Election Commission chief may have left the service, but the clandestine Umno agenda, which he had faithfully carried out to sustain the Umno hegemony for three decades, still thrives in the EC, as so abundantly manifested in GE13.

Hence, it is absolutely imperative that the present election commissioners be removed en bloc and key personnel revamped as a first step before we can even talk about reforms to our electoral system - a system that has so degenerated that it has completely destroyed the democratic principles upon which this nation was founded.

Make this our prime jihad!

Doc: During the last GE, many Malay-majority constituencies saw a straight fight between Umno and PAS. So in this case which party should the Malays vote for to ensure that the power is still in the hands of the Malays - PAS or Umno?

If the non-Malays had voted for either Umno or PAS, does that mean that they are also ensuring that the Malays hold on to power?

FairGame: What Malay power? It is more like keeping power in the hands of Umno. People like former EC chief Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman and the like are not for Malay empowerment, but more so for their own interest and benefits, all in the guise of Malay rights.

Chandran Sukumaran: "Abdul Rashid claimed that he joined Perkasa to ensure that the Malays remained as political masters, adding that as a former EC chairman, he knew how to keep the Malays in power."

What he actually meant was keeping Umno in power. He didn't realise that PAS is also a Malay party.

TheSilentMajority: All of mankind's recorded history shows that no one can remain in power through force or 'dirty tricks' for long.

The only way for the Malays to truly remain in power for posterity is to nurture a society of equals who willingly give power to those Malays who have done a good job, not because they feel it's their birth right.

Do a good job developing and caring for all rakyat and the rakyat in turn will present the country to the Malays on a silver platter to rule and keep.

Amalgam: Only a man with no brains can make this statement: "This land has always belonged to the Malays. It's in history."

Historians and professors must be cringing and hiding their faces on how the history of the land known as the Malay archipelago can be twisted.

Blame it on the British colonialists with their divide-and-rule policy - if they had called all of us Malayans then, and later Malaysians, our history would have taken a different course.

But it is not too late, and we can all stand together in the true spirit of 1Malaysia and fight the perpetrators of this British policy of divide and rule - the BN government.

Sugus: After 56 years of independence we are still talking about Malays, Chinese and Indians. On top of that, our leaders are talking about how united we are, although they feed the people with so much discrimination and abuse of power.

And there are existing groups which inject racial negativity into the minds of the people. Are we nearing a revolution to cleanse this country for good once and for all? Let's wait and see.

What about Sabah and Sarawak? And when someone asks to relook into 18-point and 20-point agreements; he is deemed a traitor to the country.

Happy Malaysian: You mean everyone thought that the electoral boundaries were drawn fairly? All this while everyone was talking about gerrymandering but was not sure, that it was just hearsay?

Of course, we all know it has been done, and will continue to be done. Do I think it's fair? Of course not. Is it a sure way of cheating? Of course not. It's only a guessing game whom the constituents are going to vote for.

So in this new delineation, will the EC cheat? Of course not, but they will draw the lines according to what they think is right. Are the opposing parties, saying it should be drawn to suit them? Certainly they are.

If they are in power will they do the same? Certainly they will - delineation is in the constitution and can be easily manipulated. So when Pakatan wins, it can redraw the boundaries to suit it.

Not Convinced: Happy Malaysian, where have you been? EC will not cheat, you said. But Abdul Rashid has admitted just as much.

Sleepy: I have said before, the losers to this political charade are ultimately the Malays. They are hoping that change will not affect their privileges. Unfortunately, this is kept alive by Umno, not for race, religion and privilege but more for its survival and existence.

Umno also knows that the non-Malays are needed hence the 'support' by MCA, MIC and Gerakan to give a false impression of racial and religious tolerance but primarily to eliminate any opposition, political or otherwise.

Headhunter: Those who attended the Bersih demonstrations were proven right, that the BN government and the EC were working in cahoots. Malaysians still need to go to the streets to clean up the EC or things will not change.

A total of 40,000 Bangladeshis voting? I don't know about you, but I believe the number is not far off, considering that more than 500,000 ICs are lost each year.

Gggg: I just don't understand Umno. If you keep harping that Malaysia belongs to Malays then what are the remaining 50 percent of Malaysians supposed to do?

You mean this land doesn't belong to them? They have no rights? They have no obligation to defend this country against the enemies of the state?

Jae K: Ambiga has pointed out rightly that the delineation has been done to benefit the ruling party.

Therefore, it is not about the Malays vs non-Malays, rather it is the people vs Umno. I hope the Malaysiakini readers will leave race out in their comments.

All the races are united under Pakatan Rakyat. They are not racists unlike most of the component parties in BN.

Ama: What happened to the call for the resignation of the EC? There are no more demonstrations to ask them to step down? Does that mean they get a free hand in the delineation exercise?

Well, if that's so, don't hope for any change in GE14. Sad for Malaysians - all talk but no real action despite all the corruption and lies.
