Umno vice-president Najib Abdul Razak definitely got it wrong. PAS president Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, and everyone else in PAS, has every right to contest in their party elections.

Qualified party members certainly should offer themselves as candidates, and it is up to the party electorate to vote and elect their choice.

If they think he's too old, or has been around too long, they can dump him. If they think he's still good, they can re-elect him.

That's the whole idea of party politics, in fact that's the whole idea of democracy. Najib has probably forgotten that, perhaps due to the numerous postponements of Umno party election in recent times.
