A police officer today released five shots during an altercation with his girlfriend's family, after his marriage proposal was rejected, news broadcast channel Astro Awani reported.

His girlfriend's brother, T Solomon Stallin, 25, was shot in the shoulder in the 8am incident and is reportedly in a stable condition at the Kajang Hospital.

Awani reported that the police officer, JM Samuel, 27, who is attached to the Bandar Baru Bangi police station, was barred from entering his girlfriend's family home after a dispute several days ago.

Samuel was apprehended at the Kajang Court complex about 11am today and his gun has been seized.

Police are investigating the matter under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.

Preliminary findings show that Samuel was off-duty but did not return his gun after taking part in a police roadblock earlier this morning.
