Another police report has been filed against English daily The Star over a Nov 12 report which portrayed slain PAS leader Ibrahim Mahmud as a terrorist.

Today, Penang PAS Youth chief Mohd Yusni Mat Piah, who is also the son of a victim in the controversial and fatal Memali incident in 1985, lodged the report with the Bukit Mertajam police station at 3pm.

Yusni joins his comrade, former Johor PAS Youth chief Suhaizan Kaiat, in calling for the daily to withdraw its report, which carried a chart on "Major cases involving deviant groups in Malaysia".

In the chart, The Star listed Ibrahim's followers as one of the deviant groups.

Yusni said he lodged the report as the son of a victim of the incident, in which Ibrahim, better known as Ibrahim Libya, and 13 of his followers were killed after police laid seige on a madrasah in Memali, near Baling, Kedah.

"About 10.30 am yesterday as I was at the public market in Permatang Pauh I saw the newspaper and read how the report classified and identified Ibrahim Mahmod with the Al-Maunah incident (2002), Imam Mahdi group (1980) and Tuhan Harun (Nov 10).

"In other words, the newspaper is likening Ibrahim to a preacher of deviant and violent teachings," he added.

Yusni said there is no fatwa issued by the National Fatwa Council against Ibrahim for being allegedly involved in deviant teachings.

He added that the report also undermined the reputation of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdul Halim Muazzam Shah who visited Ibrahim's grave.

"The article is not only slanderous but also hurt the feelings of the families and children of the Memali incident victims.

"We hope the police will probe the matter and that The Star  will retract and apologise over the article within three days from today," he said.

"This report is also made for further court action, if necessary," he added.

The move to arrest Ibrahim on 1985 resulted in 14 civilians and four policemen being killed.
