The Election Commission (EC) has rejected the notion that phantom voters may have voted in the Sungai Limau by-election won by PAS last week.

A Sinar Harian report quoted EC chairperson Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof as saying that the accusations by BN's supreme council member Shahidan Kassim that EC's list consisted of "undetectable voters" were unfounded.

NONE"There are no phantom voters. Some voters may have registered to vote in Sungai Limau and subsequently moved away without informing the EC," Abdul Aziz (right) was quoted as saying.

Dismissing the accusation by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Shahidan that voters were ferried in to vote in some areas, particularly Bukit Besar, Abdul Aziz described them as valid voters.

Shahidan had said that he would produce evidence of such voter discrepancies in Parliament.

Sungai Limau is a PAS stronghold and was retained by the Islamic party with a reduced majority in Monday's polls.
