Polygamy is about lust
The other 'noble' goal of polygamy — i.e. to "save" the widows, orphans, single mothers, etc from a life of destitution — is skewed. If Arbibi reasons that polygamy helps reduce adultery and prostitution, aren't the men taking on more wives to satisfy their lust? I think Muslim men should understand that this 'noble' goal has a better substitute — proper social services are better for destitute families.
Just throwing a wrench here — modern economy has and will generate a lot more successful Muslim women, will they then be entitled to have more then one husband for the similarly 'noble' reason?
If PAS is able to focus on the good of the people and not pretend that only they are the representatives of Islam, they should not concentrate so much on whether or not they should make it easier for PAS politicians to practise polygamy. They should instead focus on well-thought off policies and social services in solving the problem.
