The Land Public Transport Commission (Spad) is still studying the fare rates for express and school buses and is expected to announce the new rates soon.

Spad chairperson Syed Hamid Albar said they need a little more time to finalise the rates so that the decision would not cause dissatisfaction among the relevant parties.

He said the increased burden shouldered by bus express and school bus operators must be taken into consideration by balancing it with the passengers’ financial ability to use the comfortable and convenient bus service.

“We are in the midst of studying the matter in detail so that the decision will satisfy all quarters,” he told reporters after launching four new double-decker buses of Konsortium E-Mutiara Berhad at Gua Musang Terminal in Tanah Puteh today.

Each bus is equipped with a camera that records driver’s offences, global positioning system (GPS), Astro and Wi-fi services, passenger seatbelts and mobile phone charging sockets.

Also present were Konsortium E-Mutiara Berhad executive chairperson Che Ibrahim Che Ismail, Spad operations chief Halim Hussin Gua Musang police chief Supt Saiful Bahri Abdullah.
