Delimma asked in his letter, "In what sense hasn't Malaysia provide equal opportunity for everyone?" He went on to mention three highly emotive areas.

I cannot see how Malaysians were given equal opportunity in the field of higher education when non-Malay Malaysians who scored better than Malay Malaysians in their STPM were unable to get places in public universities that are funded by all Malaysian taxpayers. In fact, the government under Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has denied equal opportunity to all Malaysians in the field of education.

The present government may claim to be an equal opportunity employer but by denying non-Malay Malaysians a fair chance of job advancement, it is in fact discouraging non-Malay Malaysians from joining the civil service or the armed forces.

Malay Malaysian corporations control the major industries like banking and financial, telecommunication, mass media, shipping, the biggest plantation and mining company. Non-Malay Malaysians may appear to be in control because the balance of the economic cake not controlled by Malay Malaysians are more evenly distributed. In appearance the Malay Malaysians do not seem economically active or in control because the wealth is in the hands of only a few of them.

Delimma should find out how many lorry permits are issued to non-Malay Malaysians before declaring that the Mahathir government "provide equal opportunity for everyone".

I hope that I have sensibly answered Delimma's question. But unlike Manjit, I still believe in Malaysia and the goodness of Malaysians; however I cannot say the same for Malaysian politicians.
