PARLIAMENT The structural repairs on the cracked columns of the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2) were completed on Oct 26, the Dewan Rakyat was informed today.     

Deputy Works Minister Rosnah Rashid Shirlin said the repairs, which were started on Aug 12, 2004, cost RM102.32 million.          

She said it included a RM7.52 million contract with an independent adviser from the United Kingdom, Halcrow Group Limited.      

“There was also an alternative consultant, Leonhard Andra & Partner from Germany, who proposed the Carbon Fibre Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) method, involving a RM7 million contract,” she said.       

Rosnah was responding to a question from Dr Tan Seng Giaw (DAP-Kepong) on the status, cost and contractors involved in the MRR2 repairs.   

The government also appointed Bridgex Sdn Bhd through a RM49.9 million contract for remedial and strengthening work and to strengthen column no 28 at RM3.4 million, she added.     

Bridgex was also appointed to replace the entire CFRP tendon, which was damaged due to chemical reaction, to steel at a cost of RM34.5 million, she said.    

Rosnah further said that the government had filed a claim in court for damages against the main contractor of the project.
