I support DAP-Seputeh member of Parliament Teresa Kok's idea that elected representatives should be allowed to cast 'conscience votes' on occasions of controversial issues that cut across party lines  the people did not give the reps a blank check to vote as the reps like. Conscience votes arise when partisan interests clash with popular sentiments or the people's interests, which happens often enough.

Democracy demands that the reps choose the people above the party.

And if conscience votes are possible in the US and elsewhere — why not Malaysia?
