Notwithstanding the high-handed policies that actively aim at reducing vernacular schools, the limitations set on the development of vernacular schools are geared towards assimilation.

I believe in integration not assimilation. I support the government's move to enforce the teaching of Malay in all schools including independent schools. I support the policy that encourages students of all schools to be proficient in Malay by making it a compulsory subject. I support these because Malay is our official language and it is the language of the majority.

I would support the government if it chose to encourage Malay Malaysians to study at least one of the minority languages (Mandarin, Tamil, Iban, etc.). I would also support schools that encourage cultural study clubs that heighten the awareness of all the cultures that make up the 'Malaysian Culture'.

I support these because I believe understanding and awareness promote mutual respect and mutual respect leads to societal harmony and unification that so many politicians talk about but lack the interest to achieve.
