The first round of media boycott against The New Straits Times, Utusan Malaysia and TV3 has been a success, according to the Media Monitor Committee (Monitor).

Monitor's secretary, Zulkiflee Anwar, or better known as Zunar, told malaysiakini today that the move to boycott the media can be considered a success even if it reduced only a small portion of the circulation and viewership from the three mainstream media.

Zunar, also a well-known cartoonist for PAS' organHarakah, announced that the second phase of the boycott campaign will be launched this Sunday at 8pm at Taman Melewar, Kuala Lumpur.

Meanwhile, Syed Bani Amin, a Monitor committee member, claimed that the first phase of its campaign had reduced NST readership by 25,000 a day.

The media boycott campaign was launched on Feb 1 and lasted for three months. The second round will continue to the end of July.

Among the speakers who are expected to be present for the Sunday event are Monitor chairman Rustam A. Sani, KeADILan supreme council member Saifudin Nasution, lawyer Zulkifli Nordin and PAS deputy Youth chief Salehudin Ayub and Zunar

Malaysiakini tried to reach NSTP executive vice chairman Abdul Rahman Maidin for his comment on the claim that its English daily's readership had been significantly reduced but his aide informed that Abdul Rahman was "indisposed".

Also, NSTP managing director, Faiz Ishak and Utusan Malaysia executive director, Azizi Meor Ngah, were not available for comment.
