IGP invites Surendran to a 'skin feeling'

your say, YoursaySaintonthego: He must be joking! Looks like inspector-general of police (IGP) Khalid Abu Bakar thinks his job is like hunting, and anyone can be invited at his fancy to join in the hunt. What sort of IGP is this, is he a gangster or a hunter?

He is supposed to uphold the law, not act like a hunter. Seriously, what sort of quality is our police chief?

Armchair Newspaper: I suggest Mr Surendran exercise simple wisdom, maturity and abandon Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Umno's style of schoolyard 'I dare you' stunts.

Malaya: Firstly, the police are trained to tackle criminals. How stupid for the IGP to issue a challenge to an untrained civilian to participate in such event. No wonder we have so many casualties in PDRM.

Secondly, if you are afraid of the risks of policework, don't join the police force. As the saying goes, if you are afraid of bullets, don't be in the army.

Thirdly, relook into the police standard operating procedures (SOP) on tackling criminals. Should you allow a snatch thief to go on bail pending trial, for example?

Fourthly, don't join in the fray, don't act as a hero. Fifthly, nobody says the police's job is easy. We all salute the police for their efforts to maintain peace, but there are still some bad apples. We also feel sad if they are hurt or killed in the line of duty.

So Mr IGP, don't be stupid to invite a civilian to such an event. A good IGP doesn't simply throw challenges like this.

Sub: It is preplanned, absolutely preplanned. N Surendran should ask whether the IGP is also willing to put himself in the line of fire with him. If he accepts, only then should Surendran accept the offer.

Mano: Surendran, say no. This idiot is already saying there will be a gunfight - how does he know when and where a gunfight will take place? So he is already planning something evil. Shame on you PRDM! You call yourself internal security staff - you cannot even take care of your guns, neither can you take care of the rakyat nor the business people. You only take care of your pockets.

Why shoot to kill? Catch these crook fellows, get a solid case against them and throw them behind bars for umpteen years. What kind of police force are you?

Samurai: The cops say they have intel on who has guns. If so, why shoot them? You have the data, you can already charge them for possession of firearms (that's a crime, right? RIGHT??) and lock them up.

It should be a piece of cake for our judiciary, considering we can with more flimsy evidence lock up a former DPM for alleged sodomy at a condo that never existed, if I recall right.

K B Menon: This is childish, infantile behaviour from the IGP to issue a 'dare' . We expect better from the highest ranked policeman in the nation.

DevilsSlaughter: This indicates that the IGP is also another clown. He should join politics instead of holding the professional post of an IGP.

Visu: Well here is the world's stupidest police chief. When everyone called Malaysia 'Bodohland', I thought it was a joke, but now I am really concerned.

Armchair Newspaper: The IGP must prove his claims with an outcome of lower crime rates and a safer country. Prove by affording equal protection of law to all, including suspects, police and the society.

Right now no one feels safe, except Home Minister Zahid Hamidi and the IGP. Don't waste time with beating your own chest and 'I dare you' stunts, IGP. Just do the right thing instead of playing to the gallery of your political master Umno. And Surendran, I'm equally puzzled with your Tarzan stunt, what do you want to prove?

Sakit Hati Ku: In Australia I once saw on TV (the media was there and cameras rolling) how the police tackled a difficult situation with hardened armed criminals. They surrounded the subjects, called to them to lay down their arms and come out of their hiding place with their arms raised.

If that failed and they got no sign of any response, they would still wait until the first shot was fired against the police. - and only then would they respond fully by returning fire.

Would I expect the 'high quality' Utusan Malaysia newspaper to do likewise, that is to give a factual picture of police standard operating procedures (SOP) to its readers?

Sonofmsia: This stupid IGP IS always trying to fool people with his logic of protecting the force. The police use high power long-range rifles with precision scopes. The police can bring in any sniper or sharp shooter or any advanced weapon they want when they want to confront dangerous criminals.

Those criminals only have handguns. All the police have to do, and everyone who knows a bit about guns would know, is for the police to keep sufficient distance from those criminals, and they will be out of range.

It is not easy to shoot accurately long distance using a handgun, even if one is highly trained. On the other hand, with a rifle a police sniper can shoot from even a few thousand feet away. This IGP, since taking office, has never stopped lying every day.

Bernard Phillips: The IGP is a joke just like his boss, the home minister. He simply does not get it, that the police have been trained extensively both in the country and overseas and are expected to do better.

They are not trained to be killers, but to disable criminals so that they be arrested and brought to court where they will face justice. Just reading this piece has sickened me.

It is my hope that PM Najib Razak will remove both this IGP and the home minister. I am absolutely certain that there are many other suitable officers who can be promoted to hold this highly respected appointment, and equally I am sure that among senior Umno politicians there are people who qualify to head the Home Ministry.

Please have this done before the country becomes a laughing stock internationally.

BangunlahMalaysia: This is the most obnoxious IGP the country has ever had. Churning out rubbish replies all the time. Surendran isn't a journalist so the need for him to be at the frontlines does not arise.

However, should Surendran take up your offer, you should tag along as well, instead of delegating it to the CID. Why should you, as head of the police force sit comfortably in your air-conditioned room or perhaps your lavish bedroom while your men faces the criminals?

Get some ginseng to boost your guts, Khalid.

Senior: It's not the shootout that's the problem, it's the "shoot first".
