There are no “sensational” issues that have been raised in the Audit Report 2012 if compared with previous reports, Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairperson Nur Jazlan Mohamed said today.

Speaking at a forum on audit report at the Karangkraf headquarters today, Nur Jazlan said that the most “sensational” case unearthed in the report released last week was the police’s missing firearms and cars.

NONE“That (issue), the value is only RM1.3 million. It’s not as big as National Feedlot Corporation (NFC),” he said.

However, his attempts to play down the findings in the report were met with boos from the audience during the two-hour forum.

Nur Jazlan claimed that not having a huge issue highlighted in the latest audit report is a sign of progress, a sign that government departments are improving their practice gradually with time.

He went to stress that the public must be thankful to the police for keeping the people’s security and the issue of the police missing their guns should not be played to up to such an extent.

“The opposition is playing up this issue. Don’t play up this issue so much,” Nur Jazlan said.

“Wastage and misappropriation is reducing. We have to be patient in this matter,” he said, before saying that people should not follow their “hearts to the extent that you don’t follow your brains”.

“You can’t eradicate the practice overnight. But the frequency and the value of funds you are talking about will reduce,” he said.

Nur Jazlan went on to say that former youth and sports minister Ahmad Shabery Cheek’s offer to explain the RM1.6 million allocation for a K-Pop concert last year proves that the PAC is being taken seriously.

“This has never happened before in history. Things are not as bad as some make it out to be,” he said.
