your say, YoursayTehachapi: These building collapses are clear and unmistakable signs of systemic failure of government. Much like a human body, it is robust and can tolerate certain amount of abuse and torture.

But beyond a certain threshold limit when a tipping point is reached, the effect of cumulative abuse begins to show.

Please watch out for the rapid decline in our morality and ethics as we are so divided and at war with ourselves. Our democratic institutions have been weakened by relentless abuses.

What about our social norms and acceptable codes of conduct and the system of checks and balances? Most of them are neglected and in sorrowful disrepair.

Without the support of social superstructure and respect for independent assessments, the quality of hardware and buildings will start collapsing. The sum of all these adds up to a state of collapse or the making of a failed state.

To arrest these collapses, let us go back to strengthening our moral fiber. Learn from the past or live in regret.

Factnot fiction: List out the collapses of building throughout Malaysia, and we shall find out the main cause - corruption.

Bye Bye: It looks like more cases will surface. The people will only wake up when there are human casualties.

The Real Duke: Maybe they are not caused by corruption. Could it be earthquakes or the side-effects from tsunamis in neighbouring countries? Or perhaps sun-spots eruption.

Corruption of subcontracting a few levels down and approvals given by palm greasing to government officers resulted in weak buildings. We will see more of these collapses all over the country.

Race riots could be costly, warns Ani Arope in memoirs

Swipenter: It is unspoken fact for years that Ani Arope stood up to Dr Mahathir Mohamad's plan to privatise Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and got removed from TNB. Mahathir's privatisation of TNB (and others) is for the benefit of his cronies and himself, and not for the rakyat.

Ani Arope is a true blue Malay(sian) of the highest integrity and deserves our utmost respect. Umnoputras play the racist game to get voted into the leadership of Umno. They can't be anything else because their leaders have to be racists and ultra-Malay chauvinists.

Once voted into the top level of Umno, all of them rape and blunder the country resources for themselves, their cronies, family members and friends.

If there is a race riot tomorrow, all these Umnoputras and their ilk having build huge comfortable nests and big fat bank accounts overseas would be on the next flight out.

Toonarmy: "This job is an ‘amanah' (trust). You are entrusted with this responsibility and you carry it out to the best of your ability. I do not want somebody to come and urinate on my grave. In the Malay culture, that is about the worst insult they can do to a man."

This defines this honourable man. A true national icon. The graves we will be forming long queues to urinate on are all Umno and Perkasa ones, especially that of Ani's least favourite PM.

RR: We salute Ani Arope for his boldness to take on Mahathir with regard to independent power producers (IPPs) that were given to a chosen few cronies at the expense of TNB and taxpayers.

All Malaysians will be glad to see the poor rural Malays enjoy the benefits of the New Economic Policy (NEP), but in reality only the already privileged and rich cronies largely benefited from the NEP and will continue to be so.

As long as the educated Malays do not realise this, they will always be at the losing end. God bless Ani Arope for being a real champion for the poor Malays.

Abasir: Ani Arope belongs to that class of Malays known for courage, decency, sense and sensibility. That class, however, is fast disappearing and is being replaced by a low class of common street thugs.

Bobster: Hats off to the true blue TNB man. He carried a huge responsibility yet remained low-profile and ready to hit the nail on its head when called for. Such character has already long extinct in the current breed of politicians and businessmen.

All are tainted by personal gain at the expense of a nation with the typical excuse of race and religion.

Mohd: Lesson to be learnt here - do bear in mind that this was the time when Mahathir was at his peak where a segment of the Malays and huge groups of Chinese and Indians were staunch followers and supporters of Mahathir.

It just shows that there is a cycle of "elapsed" memory for the races in the country. Now it's the time for the Malays.

Probably, there will be a time in the near future where the Chinese will take their turn again, some Indians already having the "elapsed" memory syndrome recently.

So don't blame any specific race but blame Malaysians in general.
