I don't see what sacrifices Malay Malaysians have made for education's sake (Isu BI: Muhd Taib mahu pengorbanan orang Melayu dihargai) in the country. If the switch from Malay to English in the teaching of Science and Mathematics is considered such a big and painful sacrifice, then they should not switch.

The 'sacrifice' should not be an excuse to force the Chinese community to make the switch and onto the wrong path just because the Umno leader (Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad) chooses so.

I also doubt the sincerity of the Barisan Nasional Chinese-based component parties in resolving this issue or the practicality of adding more hours in teaching Science and Mathematics in both English and Chinese.

There is still a threat to the learning of mother tongue in national-type primary schools if the UPSR (primary six assessment test) will eventually only run the Science and Maths examination in English. The students will not be interested in learning Science and Maths in Chinese any more as it no longer carries any weight in academic recognition.

If MCA is truly representative of the Chinese community in the government, it should have at least talked with and consulted the Chinese educationist group, Dong Jiao Zong.
