Former Malacca chief minister Mohd Ali Rustam, 64, is one of four people sworn in as senators today.

The three others are Barisan Nasional chairperson for the Batu parliamentary constituency, Yahaya Mat Ghani, 55; Putrajaya Umno deputy head Khairudin ES Abd Samad, 59, and Gombak Umno Youth head Megat Zulkarnain Omardin, 44.
All of them, who have been appointed senators for the first time for a three-year term, took their oath before Dewan Negara president Abu Zahar Ujang in the Dewan Negara.
Mohd Ali, who hails from Bukit Katil, Malacca, holds a degree in Social Science (Development Economics) from Universiti Sains Malaysia. The chairperson of Perbadanan Usahawan Nasional Bhd (PUNB) was the chief minister of Malacca for 13 years from Dec 2, 1999.
Yahaya, who is from Pasir Puteh, Kelantan, is a director of Mobility One Sdn Bhd.
Khairudin, from Penang, holds a Diploma in Human Resource Management from the University of Newcastle, Australia, and is chairperson of the Youth Consultative Council of the Putrajaya parliamentary constituency.
Megat Zulkarnain hails from Gombak, Selangor and holds a Diploma in Business Administration from Stamford College. He is deputy chairperson of the supreme council of the Pertubuhan Seni Silat Lincah Malaysia (PSSLM).
