Kedah DAP takeover wrong way to solve problems

"I am extremely disturbed by the fact that of the CEC's takeover of Kedah DAP state committee in place of a formally, democratically elected state committee.
"It has set a dangerous precedent for the party as well as Malaysian partisan politics," CEC member and Johor DAP chairperson Boo Cheng Hau (right) said in a statement today.
"In view of only 14 delegates turning up at the special national congress, we need to find out the reasons as to why the morale is low in Kedah DAP," he added.
Boo said Kedah DAP interim chief Zairil Khir Johari's move last week was "not timely and appropriate" as a way to solve the state's issues, and called for "investigation and mediation" as a solution.
This, he said, would help set up a democratic process and save other state CECs from following similar takeovers in future.
Boo said he conveyed his sentiments to party chief Karpal Singh yesterday by email, and has suggested a three-man panel of non-CEC members "to investigate the real problems in Kedah DAP and find amicable solutions to the matter".
He suggested that the panel comprises national adviser Chen Man Hin (left) as the head, with former secretary-general Kerk Kim Hock and veteran Liew Ah Kim as members.
The present takeover, Boo said, should be avoided in future as "it is extremely bad for the party image and survival".
He also called for the proposed committee to be set up urgently, "before the intervention by the ROS to prevent any undue incident that could endanger or embarrass the party".
No objections raised before
In response, DAP national organising secretary Anthony Loke claimed that Boo was present during the previous CEC meetings when the matter of the takeover was deliberated and agreed upon, on May 10 and June 5, but the latter did not at any point raise any objection.
During the May 10 meeting, Loke (right) explained in a statement, the CEC approved the proposal by party assistant secretary Thomas Su that it take over Kedah DAP state committee and that Zairil be appointed to lead the interim committee.
This was followed by the June 5 meeting in which the CEC decided to proceed with the takeover, despite a letter by former Kedah chairperson Lee Guan Aik appealing the decision.
“He (Boo) did not raise any objections then nor make any counter proposals on the issue. Hence, the proposal to take over Kedah DAP was approved unanimously,”
“As a member of the CEC, Boo was bound by the collective decision made at both meetings. I am puzzled as to why he chose to raise the issue now and make his proposal through a press statement instead of raising the issue through the next CEC meeting,” Loke said.
He added that the CEC, on Sept 30, then agreed unanimously to reaffirm the takeover decision.
