The anti-corruption agency has decided to look into this matter. Therefore, maybe the public should quit discussing it in the media — be it mainstream or alternative.

However, one fears that once the case is kept from the public, the case may just be postponed indefinitely as had happened to the other high-profile cases.

Now, the issue is not about the lavishness of the wedding receptions though it certainly brought to attention the other more important issues in the fire department.

What about the other allegations raised by the department's deputy director, Mohd Ali Tambi Chik? No self-respecting individual will make the allegations to the media if he does not have any solid evidence to back-up his allegations?

If he did make unsubstantiated allegations, he has actually put his career and personal reputation on the line, and he will definitely pay for it.

So, instead of just brushing the case aside, and pretend that all is well, let's investigate the matter further.

Also, I urge the authority to dig further. Look at the director-general's personal assets. Do they suggest any financial wrongdoings? It will put a big dent on the ACA's reputation and supposed impartiality if the case is closed without a proper explanation to the public.

It is time that the ACA acts on behalf of the rakyat, who pay the salaries of all public servants, instead of protecting the interests of justa few.

Further, with regards to the fact that the mainstream media have generally kept silent on this, is it because they fear opening the floodgate to corruption cases involving 'important' people should the allegations be proven to be true in this case?
