Man claims airgun was bought for work experiment

The man who was detained in relation to the discovery of airgun components in a parcel received at the Butterworth post office, Bagan Dalam on Sept 23 claimed that it was bought from the United States for a work related experiment.

“We have recorded statements from the married couple, both of whom work at the same private company. They admitted that the airgun was meant for some research and experiments at work
“A search of their home did not reveal any criminal elements either,” North Seberang Perai police chief ACP Abdul Rahman Ibrahim told reporters in Kepala Batas today.
He said the investigation report has been sent to the public prosecutor’s office for further action and the couple were released on police bond.
The incident caused a stir at the Butterworth post office when a postal worker discovered a number of airgun components in a suspicious looking parcel labeled ‘dictionary’.
Police later detained a man in his 30s at his home in George Town to facilitate investigations into the case under the Firearms Act 1960.
