There is only one word to describe the Barisan Nasional government's actions these days  if the judgments are not favourable, then just ignore it. The police after all will not act on the instructions of the courts but from the home minister himself. The home minister will not act except on instructions from the prime minister himself.

Then there is the ill treatment of a famous human rights lawyer from Indonesia, a fellow Muslim brother who has been denied entry into Malaysia. This has angered a whole nation. The highest authority just ignored it: After all he has the right to give or not to give safe passage for foreigners into the country.

A rally for all Malaysians was to be held in a private premises, the Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall in KL. The police shut the gates and roughed up the participants. Chief Dell Akbar Khan says we have the right to do it and will just ignore public opinion.

The opposition wins over a state and suddenly any agreement signed with the state government becomes void and the state now receives no royalty for the exploration of oil from its shores. A whole state is denied what is rightfully theirs, but the federal government ignores it.

Instead of heeding educationists around the country who suggest deepening the level of English as a subject (studying classics and literature), the government bulldozes its plans to use English in the teaching of Math and Science. They will just ignore the masses.

Neither the police nor the courts really care as long as the ruling party is safe where it sits. Opposition remains victimised and individuals are charged on flimsy evidence while favoured ones get away even if the case against them is obvious.

These acts of arrogance are beginning to jell on Malaysians and no matter the sweeteners that come pre-election, we should not allow ourselves to be conned anymore.
