Kit Siang files suit against Utusan, again

DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang has taken Umno-owned Utusan Malaysia to court for an article that implied the had allegedly manipulated the party elections last December.
DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang has taken Umno-owned Utusan Malaysia to court for an article that implied the had allegedly manipulated the party elections last December.
Lim, through his counsel Gobind Singh Deo, filed the defamation suit against the Malay daily in the High Court in Kuala Lumpur today.
In his statement of claim, Lim said Utusan had on Aug 18 published an article titled ‘Kit Siang manipulated CEC elections?’ which contained defamatory words with bad intentions.
The statement of claim also states that the article quoted a person by the name of ‘Father Augustus Chen’, who claimed that Lim intervened in the decision on which division delegates would vote at the DAP congress.
Gobind (left) said Lim was seeking costs and general damages caused by the defamatory article.
Lim, who is also Gelang Patah MP, said the article had portrayed him as not virtuous, untrustworthy and going against the laws by exploiting the party constitution to ensure his triumph in the CEC election.
He said he was made to look like a person who was immoral, untrustworthy and not fit to be a leader.
Lim had earlier described the fictitious 'Father Augustus Chen' as an 'evil genius' for cramming and packing some 100 lies and falsehoods into a 12-page booklet.
In the booklet titled “The Equity Report (CEC Election Fraud)”, the author claims, among others, that 753 delegates were not notified of last December's DAP congress in Penang.
The author also claims that 547 "phantom delegates" voted in the DAP elections.
Checks with the Council of Churches Malaysia by Malaysiakini showed there is no priest or pastor who goes by the name "Father Augustus Chen" in the CCM's records.
