The recent proposal by PAS Ulama Council chief Harun Taib that the party reviews its collaboration with DAP and PKR in Pakatan Rakyat seems to have struck a note among the grassroots.

One of them is Mohd Helmi Azam, reportedly a Kedah PAS member, who told the New Straits Times that fatigued DAP and PKR members are dragging PAS down.

“As a PAS member, I feel ashamed that the collaboration between the two parties had weakened PAS instead of strengthening our position,” he was quoted as saying.

He said that by collaborating with the two other parties, PAS had given up many of its principles which had been the source of its strength.

He added that a recent disclosure by DAP vice-chairperson Zulkefli Mohd Noor that Malays in DAP were were just token members to portray a multi-racial party had also rubbed salt into the wounds.

In response to Harun, PAS spiritual leader Nik Aziz Nik Mat and PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang had stressed that PAS has no intention to leave Pakatan Rakyat.
