Kampung Railway residents have until Tuesday to abandon their homes according to the eviction notice, despite reaching an out-of-court settlement.

The out-of-court settlement with Sentul Raya Sdn Bhd would see almost 100 residents given compensation and allowed to buy low-cost flats, but these have yet to be completed.

NONE Batu MP Tian Chua ( right ) said temporary housing for those to be evicted have yet to be finalised by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and they may end up homeless if forced to move on Tuesday.

"The residents of Kampung Railway and Railway quarters are from the low and medium income category, therefore, many of them do not carry the luxury of relocating temporarily while awaiting housing allocations," he said in a statement yesterday.

Tian Chua urged the authorities to allow the residents to stay put in Kampung Railway until all discussion are concluded and DBKL has readied temporary housing for them.

"I strongly warn all parties to stop harassing these residents and patiently wait until further decisions are made which will benefit both residents and Sentul Raya Sdn Bhd.

"Failing to accommodate the interest of these residents can simply result in further delay of future development in the area," he said.

The case had reached the Court of Appeal before both parties decided on an out-of-court settlement.
