As Winston Churchill once commented that "the Official Secrets Act is invariably used to defend ministers who tell lies". All corruption can only end if there is freedom of information.

The right to it is as much a basic right as the right to breathe fresh air and to drink fresh water without obstruction.

I therefore verily urge all non-governmental organisations and the public concern to unite on one strong stand to appeal to the executing officer — Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and the cabinet to review certain provisions of the Official Secrets Act to make it more in conformity with the freedom of expression and transparency in government administration .
