The people can expect to see significant changes in the way the country's education system is run, following the implementation of the Malaysia Education Blueprint 2013-2025.

One of the early results of the move would see the teacher recruitment bar being raised and enforced at teacher training institutes and public higher learning institutions.

The public may also see 100 percent of schools in the country having Internet connection of at least 4Mbps through the 1BestariNet, according to the blueprint launched today by Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, who is also the education minister.

Another early gain to be delivered from the implementation of the education plan would see 100 per cent English option teachers who are below proficiency level undergoing upskilling programmes.

As far as examination questions are concerned, students can expect to have 20 per cent of the questions related to higher-order thinking skills.

The performance of teachers is another focus area, with 410,000 teachers to be assessed via what is dubbed as a "unified instrument", while 61,000 English teachers would be assessed against internationally recognised Cambridge Placement Test (CPT).

"These changes will form the foundation for future results," said the blueprint.

Covering the period from 2013 to 2025, the blueprint offers a vision of the education system and student aspirations that Malaysia both needs and deserves.

It suggests 11 strategic and operational shifts that would be required to achieve that vision.
