After 45 years of independence, Malaysia's economy and development have advanced dramatically. We have successfully transformed from a third world country into a well-known industrial nation.

However, sad to say, the political mind set that could easily devastate all our hard work has not moved in tandem with the physical and economic development.

Perhaps this national day, all Malaysians and our leaders will learn from the recent incidents — namely the anti-Malaysian outbursts in Indonesia and Philippines, the water issue with Singapore — and acknowledge national interest is above all else.

Therefore, in order to ensure the continued growth and dignity of a multiracial country like Malaysia, we must build a truly integrated nation. A country that provides a free and democratic system, based on the principles of human rights, equality, social and economic justice.

With all above, I wish a new and a true integrated Malaysia will be formed soon.
