I wish to commend Gerakan for its brave stand to speak up against the rash proposal to teach Science and Mathematics in English in all primary schools next year. From an educational viewpoint, the proposal is, like my Malay friends say, haprak (nonsensical). I hope Gerakan would fight to the end. There are many Malaysians, irrespective of ethnicity, who support Gerakan on this issue.

However, I wonder why both MCA and DAP seemed to have soften their opposition. They are not being seen as actively articulating the people's view anymore after Gerakan has come forward.

MCA must not be worried of being branded as "Chinese extremists". There are many Malay and Indian Malaysians who also oppose the proposal. Keadilan, for example, has publicly invited MCA to join the roadshow to explain the issue in greater detail to the people.

It is a golden opportunity for MCA to show that, even as a Chinese party, it cares for the children of all ethnic groups. It will augur well for national unity.

On the contrary, if MCA continues to be seen as preoccupying itself in infighting, instead of making itself felt in the opposition to such an unreasonable policy change, it will be doomed, being rejected by not only Chinese Malaysians, but also Malay and Indian Malaysian voters.
