Umno supreme council member Shahrir Abdul Samad is certainly right in saying that compulsion equals to politicisation in education. According to him, Chinese and Tamil primary schools should not be forced to change the medium of instruction of Science and Mathematics to English.

As a Chinese Malaysian and a Barisan Nasional supporter myself, I think not even the national (Malay) schools should be forced to do so. There are strong opposition too in the Malay Malaysian community as indicated by the many statements of PAS, Keadilan and other Malay-based non-governmental organisations reported by malaysiakini, Harakah and Berita Keadilan recently.

Of course, Umno strong-armed Utusan Malaysia and Berita Harian to black out the voices of opposition in the Malay Malaysian community to make it look as if only the Chinese are opposing the plan. But now, it has all been exposed.

Now that we are aware of the deception, I hope Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Utusan Malaysia and Berita Harian should apologise and resolve to be more honest about it. We forgive those who admit their mistakes, errors, follies and evil plans.
