I refer to your report Umno Youth on the offensive again. It is sad that a seemingly educated and progressive future leader of Umno, Hishamuddin Hussein, should show such insolent and irresponsible attitude in public.

While acknowledging that there are also many Malay parties and groups opposing the proposed language switch, the Umno Youth chief justified his verbal attack against Dong Jiao Zong on the ground that they spoke to the media. He also rejected any dialogue with Dong Jiao Zong, "even if he is invited".

Why not Malaysians discuss the proposal openly with an liberal attitude and spirit? After all, Dong Jiao Zong has met many Malay-based groups and signed a joint petition with them to ask the government to retract the proposal? Isn't that national unity, even though the national unity is against Umno's interest?

It shows that higher education in "law" in UK and fluency in English do not necessarily produce open-minded liberals, moderates or progressives.

In the statement reported, I see only an intolerant, closed-minded and unreasonable fascist, albeit speaking in English instead of German or Italian.

If the English language has "friends" like the Umno Youth chief or Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, it does not need enemies anymore.
