As a Malaysian Muslim studying in London, I wish to record publicly my gratitude to malaysiakini whose objective and fearless reporting has given us Malaysians pride and honour.

I refer specifically to your report headlined 'Malay groups join Chinese educationists in rejecting language switch'. It is a fact that many Malays also oppose the unthinking and stupid method of improving the standard of English.

However, the government-controlled Malay media has been trying to deceive Malaysians that only the Chinese are against the switch. For the information of my Chinese and Indian friends, Utusan Malaysia and Berita Harian, as well as RTM, have long lost their credibility among Malays since 1998.

Malays still buy the newspapers because they still want to read about sports and entertainment, which alternative media like Harakah does not provide. For political news, Malays would attend ceramah (public talk), read Harakah, Berita Keadilan or malaysiakini.

Umno too is no more the one and only voice for Malays. More than 50 percent of Malays voted for the opposition at the 1999 general election. There is no sign that Malays would return to the bad old days when they gave 100 percent support to Umno.

It is time Malaysians of all races expose and understand the deception spooned out by Umno. Yes, like all races, Malays want progress, but not through Umno anymore. Many Malays hope other races would support political changes together with Malays. Together, we should destroy Umno's brand of institutionalised racialism.

Malays themselves must not be deceived by Umno's black propaganda against the Chinese, the West and Singapore anymore. The enemy is within the party that unilaterally and falsely claims that it represents Malays.
