Before the last general election, Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad often publicly said that the Chinese school students excel in Science and Mathematics.

Indeed, many non-Chinese parents sent their children to Chinese primary schools exactly for that reason.

However, it now seems that these students have suddenly become so poor in Science and Mathematics that the medium of instruction has to be changed to English. There is certainly a great dichotomy between what was said then and now by Mahathir, and his government.

If the Chinese primary school students are good in Science and Mathematics, why change the medium of instruction? If it is not good, why the praise for the Chinese schools before the last general election. Something is wrong, not with the Chinese schools, but the honesty of the government.

What needs to be reformed is not Chinese schools, but the government itself. Chinese Malaysians must be daring enough to reform the government in the coming general election.
