A group of 80 PAS members staged a peaceful protest in front of the Assyakirin  Mosque in Bintulu, Sarawak after the Friday prayers today, over the bloodshed occurring in Egypt.

Egypt protest in BintuluThe protest was joined by locals as well as some Petronas staff from the nearby refinery in Tanjung Kidorong.

Armed with banners and signages, the group is urging the cessation of violence by military personnel towards civilians in Egypt.

Shouts of allahuakbar by the protestors can also be heard throughout the duration of the protest.

It was reported on Wednesday that at least 30 people have been killed as Egyptian security forces open fire in a move to clamp down on protesters demanding the reinstatement of deposed President Mohamed Morsi.

News agency Reuters reported that television pictures showed images of security forces shooting at Morsi supporters, who has staged a six-week sit-in, from rooftops.

However, the government in turn issued a statement saying security forces had showed the “utmost degree of self-restraint”, despite the volume of weapons and violence directed against the security forces”.
