There was this tigress, assumed to be fierce
A bullet was embedded in her, it caused an injury
She did not succumb, managed to survive without aplomb;
Taking care of two cubs, her motherly instinct remaining unperturbed.

There were two human deaths, caused by tigers assumed in stealth;
It was wretched and awful, it was indeed pitiful;
A posse was formed, of human kind in para-uniform;
To hunt the mighty beast, "We'll put her down!"
Carrying weapons of murder, not stuns or tranquilisers;
"An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth!"
For we are civilised beings, neither wild nor unforgiving!

They shot the first tiger they saw, watched her cubs scampering in awe;
"We've achieved our mission!" they claimed in unison;
The media provided attention, heroes of the kampung folks
To be proved woefully wrong, by an animal pathologist
The theory that this huge beast, had had a human as its feast;
He found remains of a wild boar, which didn't cause a furore;
Amongst those very adamant, that this creature deserved its treatment!

What has become of humans, where are all the decent elements?;
Could we not have stunned her, using a tranquiliser?;
Or, is it "revenge" we seek
Yet, if the animals respond similarly
My prayers go to those responsible, for the catastrophic bungle;
I wish the two cubs salvation, sans their mummy's protection;
May we all learn a lesson, out of this horrible situation!
