Chinese educationists no extremists
He is wrong to equate their strong stand with Muslim extremism. While I do not agree with the Chinese educationists who vetoed the teaching of Mathematics and Science in English for Chinese medium schools, they are not the same as Muslim militants like the Kumpulan Mujahidin Malaysia or the al-Qaeda.
The Chinese educationists have a bunker mentality to protect their rights and take strong stands out of insecurity. They do not propose to take anything away from anyone nor infringe themselves on someone else. They only want to protect the right to preserve their culture. In fact, all they ask is to be left alone and not have conditions and hindrance put in front of them.
Dr M is still using rhetoric to try to confuse us about what is right and wrong without regard for the long term effects. This is what ails our country now. He should partly be blamed for breeding the likes of extremist groups like the KMM.
The Chinese educationists have never been a threat to the country though they are wrong to oppose the teaching of English in Chinese schools. Even China has started to acknowledge the importance of English. The truth is Chinese Malaysians have an unenviable command of English that is just passable at best. I know so many Chinese Malaysians living abroad who cannot cope with the higher standard of English required.
