DAP national chairperson Karpal Singh has dismissed demands for him to declare his assets to dispel accusations of judicial bribery, saying the calls are "inconsequential".

NONEAccording to the New Straits Times, when asked to respond to calls for him to reveal his assets, Karpal said: "I have no time to respond to inconsequential demands and comments from inconsequential personalities."

Yesterday, Utasan Malaysia quoted both Kedah Kita chief Zamil Ibrahim and Penang-based lawyer Ranjit Singh Dhillon who called on Karpal and opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim to declare their assets over the allegations.

Earlier this month, Umno's Mazlan Ismail who lost in the seat of  Permatang Pauh in the last general election, claimed that Anwar had paid Karpal RM50 million since 2008 in legal fees and to bribe judges and prosecutors.

Both immediately denied the allegations and lodged a police report on Sunday over the matter.

Karpal also said that he would sue TV3, Utusan Malaysia, and New Straits Times for defamation over their reports on Mazlan's allegations

Ranjit told NST that by lodging a report, a “Pandora's box” had been opened, “where the pleasant and unpleasant would come out”.

"Like it or not, the six bank accounts are going to be the subject of investigations because you chose to lodge a report,” he had said.
