DAP’s Seputeh MP Teresa Kok has filed a police report on a "malicious" blog posting that she claims is “seditious”, in that it can incite hatred against her.

Kok urged the Sri Petaling police to investigate the posting titled ‘Cina pun mahu duit zakat - Teresa Kok’ (Chinese too want tithe money - Teresa Kok), posted on bnbesut.blogspot.com between Aug 4 and 5.

NONE The posting ( right ) has since been widely shared on Facebook and other social networks, she said.

"This is criminal defamation... the police have to check it. It is also a form of sedition because it can make the Muslims hate me," Kok told Malaysiakini after lodging her report this morning.

She said she was taking this “pre-emptive” step to prevent the police from going after her, as had happened in 2008 when she was detained under the Internal Security Act for a week because of "malicious lies” .

Kok said she would next lodge a complaint with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to act against the blogger, who is yet to be identified.

"My Facebook fans all asked me whether I said such thing or whether I am aware (of the post) and so on," Kok said.

"So I decided that I have to make it clear that I never made (any) such statement ... and don't think that by keeping quiet means that I will allow this guy to go scot-free."

azlan Kok said that, besides an unfounded claim that she wanted the Selangor Islamic Affairs Department to use its tithe collection to help the Chinese in Selangor, the post also carries other misleading or outdated information.

These include the statement that she is the state assemblyperson for Kinrara; that she is seeking approval to start a RM100 million pig farm in Selangor; and that she objects to Islam as the official religion of the country.

"Never in my life have I asked for zakat money to be given to Chinese. I don't know what triggered it," she said.

Expectations of MCMC

Kok’s police report states that the website was set up to campaign for the BN ahead of the Kuala Besut by-election, which was held on July 24.

She said she expects the MCMC to react strongly against the blogger concerned.

"If it can take action against (the) sex bloggers (leading them to be put) behind bars for one week ... I think it should also take all these complaints seriously,” she said.

Kok added that the fact that such lies are being spread during Ramadan makes this even harder to stomach.
