It is understandable that DAP has no option but to object to PAS' ideology and withdraw from the opposition front, Barisan Alternatif. Pragmatism and realism dictate that every political party must first be able to survive on its own ground.

The point that DAP objects to PAS ideology was already registered publicly when DAP pulled out from BA last September. It has always been well known to the public that DAP is more outspoken than MCA and Gerakan. But why is DAP repeatedly attacking PAS as if there is no other useful things to do or say?

PAS and DAP usually do not clash in the allocation of seats. There is no overlapping claims on seats because while PAS is strong in predominantly Muslim constituencies, DAP traditionally only concentrates on Chinese-predominated seats. Moreover, unless DAP has a strong following among Muslims as well as Islamic credential, there is no point for DAP to attack PAS almost every one or two days.

The opinion of DAP, although repeated without pause recently, cannot change the opinion of Muslims who are already committed to certain political points of view or organisations.

DAP may be attempting to make sure that PAS does not get the support of non-Muslims in constituencies like Pendang and Anak Bukit. If so, DAP is no longer merely concerned with defending its legitimate interest in preserving support in its own ground. It has engaged in an act of aggression against PAS by sounding more Umno than Umno, and more MCA than MCA. What is the ulterior motive or secret agenda?

What if PAS, Keadilan and PRM are really destroyed by DAP's propaganda, but the relatively weak DAP itself is, in turn, destroyed by the organisationally stronger MCA and Gerakan (they are also anti-PAS but wealthier and more powerful than DAP)? Malaysians will be left without any opposition.

Unless and until DAP has developed to be as strong as MCA and Gerakan, it should not attempt to weaken other opposition parties. Otherwise, history will record that DAP actually cleared the way for Umno/BN to establish a dictatorship in Malaysia. Think seriously, please.
