Forced studies in private colleges a sham
The Moral Studies (a compulsory subject) is a joke. The government has no moral authority to tell us what morals are. The textbooks are full of garbage propaganda ranging from subtle to obvious anti-American/West and anti-Israel causes.
Pengajian Malaysia (Malaysian Studies) is just like Sejarah (History) with 200-odd pages of crap from caveman days to Parameswara and pro-government propaganda.
And then there's the Bahasa Kebangsaan (national language) which is Bahasa Malaysia.
All these subjects were included in the secondary school syllabus, so why are they required again for private colleges? It is a blatant attempt at brainwashing students with more propaganda and it is stifling the intellectual development of private college students.
The government's action is tantamount to blackmail.
Students are to pass these subjects at 50 percent or else they are not allowed to graduate.
Najib was the one who initiated this when he was education minister.
The government should stop destroying the chances of people who want a second chance at education. Those of us who left school long ago cannot afford the time and patience to study these subjects.
As mature students, we have already formed our own political opinion and awareness, moral values and thoughts. Making us study these compulsory subjects is a total insult to us. We find these subjects meaningless; what is the point of studying them?
The subjects pose a great psychological barrier to those who find them banal and the content even offensive.
The Education Ministry should relook its policies or else we will end up being the laughing stock of the academic world. Malaysia will never become a centre of education par excellence if her students are subject to the petty wishes of politicians who do not understand what academic excellence is.
