The Segamat magistrate’s court has remanded dog trainer Maznah Mohd Yusof for one day until tomorrow afternoon.

“They asked for four days (remand). After arguing, the magistrate has granted until tomorrow afternoon...

NONE“They should release her by tomorrow but of course they can always make an application to extend the remand, but I don’t see any reason how they can do that,” Lawyers for Liberty lawyer Latheefa Koya told KiniTV today.

Maznah, also known by her nickname Chetz, is being investigated under Section 298A of the Penal Code that deals with causing disharmony in relation to religion and Section 4 of the Sedition Act.

She recently came under fire for a Hari Raya video greeting uploaded three years ago, which includes a scene where she washes her dogs.

NONEThe issue was whipped up in several Malay-language dailies yesterday which reported that the video showed “a youth dressed in baju Melayu bathing her dogs on the morning of Hari Raya before ‘taking wuduk’ (ablution)”.

The video also features the takbir raya playing in the background - a call to prayer specific for Hari Raya.

Several pro-establishment groups have interpreted this to be mocking the ablution process and Islam.

Maznah, however, has denied the claim and stressed that she had intended to show that cleanliness also applies to dogs.
